Making Small Changes
Keep it simple and easy by focussing on one small change at a time.
Start by reflect on your indoor and outdoor environment.
Identify one area in your provision that is not working well, e.g. children do not use it.
Focus on that particular area and identify how you can improve it.
Once the improvement is made, return to the beginning of the cycle.
Step 1 Reflect on your current indoor & outdoor environments
Step 2 Identify an area for improvement
Step 3 Plan the improvement to the identified area
Step 4 Implement the improvement
Step 5 Reflect
Start by asking yourself the following questions when thinking about your environment:
Not Sure?
1) Are there opportunities for a variety of play indoors and outdoors?
2) Is your environment accessible for all
3) Is the environment inviting to children and will they be stimulated?
4) Will children experience many things without prompting from adults?
5) Will the environment challenge children to experiment, problem-solve and push themselves?
6) Will children have the opportunity to engage and develop their self-regulation (their awareness and control of their own emotions, thinking and learning)?
7) Do children feel cared for, secure and valued?
8) Is the environment safe whilst still being challenging, allowing opportunity for risk taking?
